Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Mark Chill Enterprises ("we", "us") collects when you use the Crate Runner app and the craterunner.app website, and what we do with it. The short version: your music, your files, and your taste model never leave your Mac. We hold your email and license details so the app can run, and we receive anonymous judging counts that help us improve the app.
What stays on your Mac
- Your music files, the tracks you drop in, and the copies in your Keepers folder.
- The audio snippets the app cuts, the sound descriptions it computes, and the taste model built from your keeps and skips.
- Your filters and settings.
None of this is uploaded, and we cannot see it.
What we collect for licensing
- Your email address, license key, plan, and the dates your free trial or subscription starts, renews, and ends.
- For each Mac you activate: a hashed hardware identifier, the app version, and the times the app checked in. We do not receive your Mac's name, user name, or file system paths.
- From Paddle, our merchant of record: transaction and subscription identifiers and status. Paddle handles your payment details under its own privacy policy; we never see your card number.
We use this to issue keys (free trial keys included), enforce the one-Mac limit and the one free trial per Mac, move a license to a new Mac when you ask, send license, trial, and billing emails, and answer support requests. If you start a free trial we may also write to you about Crate Runner; ask us at any time and we stop.
Anonymous judging statistics
Every install sends anonymous statistics. This is part of how the product works and cannot be switched off. It includes:
- A random install identifier created on first run. It is not linked to your email or license.
- Judging events: keep, skip, later, undo, wrong drop flags, and "heard this" checks, each with the song identity (a normalized form of the track's file name, which for pool downloads is its artist, title, and version; never the folder or path).
- The brand of the record pool a pack came from (a known pool name, or "other"; never the name of your zip or folder), track and duplicate counts per pack, the sizes of your filter lists (not their contents), session counts, and app version.
- A ranking quality score per session (a few numbers), so we can tell whether the taste model is working.
These statistics help us improve Crate Runner's ranking and understand how it is used. They contain no audio, no files, no personal names, and no file paths. Artist names a drop credited that our master list cannot score yet are reported by name so the list can grow; our server, not your Mac, looks them up on Spotify.
The website
craterunner.app sets no cookies of its own and runs no third-party analytics. The home page loads Paddle's checkout script, and the checkout is operated by Paddle under its own policy. Like any website, our host Cloudflare sees your IP address when you visit or the app checks in; we do not store it.
Who we share with
Paddle (payments), Cloudflare (hosting for the website, license server, and statistics), and our email delivery provider (license, trial, and billing emails). We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for advertising.
How long we keep it
License and billing records for as long as you have an account and for the period tax and accounting law requires afterwards. Judging statistics are kept indefinitely. You can ask us to delete your licensing records at any time; doing so ends your license.
Your choices
Email support@craterunner.app to see, correct, or delete the licensing information we hold about you, or to cancel. California residents have the rights described in the California Consumer Privacy Act; write to the same address to exercise them.
Children
Crate Runner is for working DJs and is not directed at anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the current version.
